Day 9: Visual journals
Today’s activity is written by Beth Wakabayashi, Counsellor & Art Therapist MA, DVATI from The Children’s Foundation.
Visual journals are a wonderful way to self-reflect, reduce stress, explore feelings and perspectives and improve wellness. Visual journals are like a diary except you can include medium for communication and self-expression.
You do not have to be an artist to enjoy creating a visual journal. The focus is not on the product but on the creative and self-reflection process. You can use whatever art materials you have available, and the visual journal gives you a safe and contained place to share your thoughts and feelings.
You can use the visual journal as a daily check-in and use the colours, symbols and materials that you are drawn to that day. You can also use visual journal prompts that are available in many books or online. Some examples include: create a collage, draw the perfect day, create a symbol for yourself, draw the weather you are feeling today, draw your safe place or draw an animal that represents you.
Be creative! It is your place to check in and reflect! Enjoy!
