Day 27: Connect with nature
Dr. Olutade Olajitan, a psychiatrist practicing out of Langley Memorial Hospital, counsels patients dealing with issues that affect their quality of life. Dr. Olajitan specializes in forensic psychiatry, addiction and general psychiatry for children, adolescents and adults. One of his top recommendations for boosting mental wellness is to embrace natural light.
“Make the most out of daylight by spending time outdoors during the brightest part of the day. Even a short walk can boost your mood and help regulate your sleep-wake cycle,” he says.
If outdoor natural light isn’t available, especially in the winter months, Dr. Olajitan recommends using light therapy lamps for at least 30 minutes in the morning. Just a brief exposure to natural light can sharpen your focus and create a sense of balance that supports overall mental wellness.
