Day 11: Collage

Today’s activity is written by Beth Wakabayashi, Counsellor & Art Therapist MA, DVATI from The Children’s Foundation.

Art has a long history of use for self-expression and communication. Art therapy offers an opportunity to increase self-awareness and insight using a creative process. You do not have to have any artistic experience or special talents. The focus is on the ‘process’ and not the ‘product’.

Collage is a wonderful creative opportunity that is easy to start. You will need a bunch of old magazines, scissors, a glue stick and a piece of paper. Browse through the magazines and cut out any pictures, symbols or words that you are drawn to. When you have a pile of examples you can glue them onto your paper and then spend time reflecting on your piece.

Some people also like to have themes for their collages such as: who am I, safe places, what brings me anxiety, goals, manifesting, strengths and interests, etc.

Don't forget to take the time to self-reflect and notice what stands out for you or what surprises you. Most importantly, have fun!
