Day 13: “S” breathing

Caitlynne, a yoga teacher at Evolution Pilates & Yoga Studios, guides us through a breathing technique called "S” breathing.

"I am so excited to be breathing with you today! I am hoping that we can not only breathe together, but also have a little bit of fun today!

Breathing is so important, especially because we do it every day. As we experience life, you can see that that breath tends to rise within our bodies. Sometimes we're breathing into the lungs or into the chest. But optimal breathing is down in the diaphragm.

Find a comfortable seat, anywhere in your house or office, wherever feels best. Close your eyes, or soften your gaze. Roll your shoulders down and away from your ears, and take a big breath in and exhale out. For your next inhale, fill your belly, and on your exhale make an "S" or hissing sound to help all the air escape from your body. Repeat this a few times to feel really grounded and comfortable in your body.

This is also a great activity to do with littles at home, or anyone with a lot of energy. You can do some snake movements to go with the S breath, activating their imagination.

This makes breathing really fun and enjoyable. You deserve it!"
